When you lock into a fixed position you cut off communication with your partner and maintaining balance becomes forced. In this class we’ll build the intermediate skill of communicating through the connection point in order to make maintaining balance an infinitely responsive collaboration between partners. We’ll practice applying this skill into the steps, posts, and rides we’ve covered through the rest of the month. *??? ????????????!* Each week the fundamentals lesson will include the bare minimum you need to step out onto the dance floor as well as a specific concept and skill. David started his dance journey in Lindy Hop, eventually sidling into blues and fusion circa 2016, where he fell in love with dancing all over again through syncopation, musicality, and playfulness. His sets strive to show beginners that musicality is accessible to all levels. ????????? ??? Jonathan is a musician with decades of experience playing the piano and singing in choirs. His first introduction to social dancing was through his college West Coast Swing club, and ever since then he has been hooked. Although he only discovered fusion a year ago, it has rapidly become his new favorite dance style due to its potential for freeform musicality. Starting with creative movement classes at age three, Amber Dawn has danced across multiple stages and genres of dance throughout her life. She co-founded the first dance troupe at her high school. Forever learning, Amber has studied technique for years in many styles of movement & dance including: ballet, modern, jazz, belly dance, international ballroom, martial arts, Latin dances, swing dances, fusion, micro-fusion, and more! As a teacher, organizer, and DJ in the SF Bay Area, Amber thrives on creating containers to foster connection through music and movement. Amber has developed her own teaching style where she delivers geeky dance technique and creative experiences in ways that are connection based, playful, and accessible. Jonathan Liu started dancing through his local West Coast Swing college club in 2013 and has been hooked ever since. Over the years, he has also picked up experience in Tango, Blues, Brazilian Zouk, Contemporary and (most belovedly) Fusion dance. A scientist by training, he loves to approach partner dance from a first principles-based perspective, grounding lessons in simple fundamentals rather than complex patterns. As a regular DJ in the Bay Area, he also is incredibly passionate about incorporating musicality into his teaching repertoire. As someone who picked up dance relatively later in life, Jonathan is a strong believer that anyone can learn to dance, and that everything is more fun when approached from a curious student’s perspective.
